What are your favorite indoor games to play with your dog?
Main Post:
I have a very large dog (140 lbs, 5 years old, mixed breed) who is so completely uninterested in toys and games. Doesn’t like to play tug, doesn’t enjoy fetch, mildly tolerates walks. Because he doesn’t enjoy a lot of the typical outlets he gets a lot of pent up energy and then displays it in unfavorable ways (aggression - we’re working on it, not looking for help with that here!) especially during the winter months when it’s too cold to be outside as often as we are in the summer.
What are your favorite indoor games to play with your dogs? Ours is highly motivated by meats, cheeses, and peanut butter. I keep Kong balls filled and frozen for certain days. I have tried rolling up a towel with small hidden treats inside (he gives up when he can’t easily find them), hiding small treats around and playing “find it” so he sniffs them out, and doing rounds of rapid-fire training (sit, “on your mat”, down, stay, come) with treats as rewards.
Just needing some fresh ideas!
(Editing to add: noted his size due to many of the puzzle toys seeming too small for him - if you have specific ones in mind that is helpful too! Thanks so much!)

Dogs in games.

Top Comment: Then you got Call of Duty Vangaurd. COD Devs: I want to add more dogs to the game. Players have started shooting them on sight due to the fact the kill streak dogs will kill them if they don't.
Far Cry 3 and Watch Dogs E3 videos were 'Vertical Slices'.? I implore you to learn what a 'Vertical Slice' is. This way you won't get your hopes up at E3, GDC, etc.. and then get subsequently crushed with the retail release...

In a nutshell its the developers showcasing what the engine is capable of, but within a NARROW piece of the game or level of a game, and is not intended to be the final representation of the game. But no one ever tells you this.
Last paragraph: Those who desire to see vertical slices make the mistake of thinking of game development as a pure production exercise, which of course it is not, and will likely misunderstand what further development will entail. Vertical slices are also simply not achievable in many kinds of game.

Yup. Studios will spend tons of time just preparing a demo for a trade show, they are usually held together with duct tape and prayers and won't even serve the main game in any way at all. Its almost like developing an entire side project to show people.
Dogs in video games are the best. : Unexpected

A game I play with my dogs that WEARS them OUT. Perfect if you’re sick and can’t do a long walk or if it’s raining
Main Post:
So this is obviously not a substitute for walking your dogs but I live in the PWN and when it rains a lot, they mostly go potty and the rest of fun activities have to be indoors. So this is how I wear them out fast:
Take favorite snack, we do carrots (low cal = can do a lot more volume) and cut it up. I put my dogs in the bathroom or another room and close the door and say wait. Then I quickly hide 2 carrot chunks somewhere in the room. This is where it gets fun for you too - finding just challenging enough but accessible for a dog place to hide. Once the two pieces are hidden - I opened the door and say “where is it?” And raise my hands in question. They quickly realize what’s going on and the boopers start to wiggle around sniffing everything. It’s also fun to see which dog is better at sniffing lol once both pieces are found (by both dogs or one dog) they both go back into the bathroom for a min while I hide more carrots. I do 2 pieces at a time. Keeps it tense lol 10-15 mins later and they’re tired and happy and full. If your treat smells a lot stronger than a veggie then need to find more challenging places to hide it otherwise it’d be too easy. Hope this helps!
Top Comment: We also live in the PNW and had to find fun games. We hid pieces of sausage for our dog to find throughout the house. We called it “hide the wiener”. I didn’t even think about how it sounded until I got a call from my son’s school.

Just a friendly survey :)
What are your dogs' favorite games to play with you? What games do you like for exhausting the dog without wearing you out? Any quirky ones that your dog loves but others don't?

Hide and seek! I get my dog to wait, go hide in the house somewhere. I then call out his name and he searches room to room until he finds me. When he spots me, butt wiggled excitement!
[DISCUSSION] What are some fun games for a smart dog?
Main Post:
I'm looking for some fun new games to play with my pup. I have a 5 year old Australian Shepherd named Ru. We go for lots of long hikes and I take him jogging sometimes, but he is very smart and also needs mental stimulation.
Ru's current favorite game is hide and seek, which I taught him about 2 years ago. I have him sit in a secluded corner of the house so he can't see where I'm going, and tell him to wait. He waits patiently while I hide his favorite ball somewhere in the house. I come back and tell him "go find it" and he runs off and comes back with his ball, usually in less than a minute. It was challenging for him for a while but my house is very small and there are limited places to hide his ball. I play this game with him in the yard too but theres nowhere he can wait where he won't see where I'm going. He still loves the game but he knows all of the hiding places and it doesn't challenge him anymore, so I'm looking for other things I can do with him to work his brain. What are some fun, challenging things you've taught your smart pups?

This book was a fun read, there are a bunch of little games you can teach your dog. Also this guy has some fun and inspiring videos with his cat, now I have my dog do "parkour" at the park.

List of indoor games to play WITH dog
Main Post:
Nearly all indoor mental stimulation game ideas I've seen are various treat dispensers and toys for dogs to play with independently
I am trying to compile a list of low physical/high mental energy games we can play together in a fairly small indoor space.
So far I have
-tug (duh)
-guess and mark the hand the treat is in
-3 cups game (treat under one, move cups around)
-learn names of toys
-put [an object] into [another object] (toy/toy box, kids puzzle piece)
-turn in a circle
-weave between my legs
Does anyone have any other good ones?
Top Comment: A few we do... Treat hide and seek - tell doggo to stay, then go hide treat in other room for them to snuffle out. Normal hide and seek - you hide and call them Peek-a-boo- throw blanket over dog (I dunno why my dog loves this) Dance - stand on hind legs and turn in a circle You sound like a good human :)
Running out of ideas for games to play with puppy.
Main Post:
My puppy still is too young for walks, since we don’t have our own yard. But- I’m running out of indoor activities to do with her, she’s getting antsy. She likes fetch, and tug of war, and training time, and Kong’s of course. Any game ideas? She’s a 13 week old golden doodle.

Our vet advised that walks in non-heavy dog areas is more beneficial than it is risky. He said it's helpful to get them acclimated to the sights, sounds, smells of the outdoors while they are young. The other thing you can do is take them to a place like Home Depot and keep them in the shopping cart. It's great exposure for them with very little risk.

Good so far. Just grinding most of the towers to advance and get more dogs. I really hope they repeat all of the events for the new players.
